I’m reposting this from the Detroit Free Press. This is an amazing story. We often hear that living donation offers a better outcome than the transplantation of a kidney from a deceased donor. The woman in this article received a kidney from her father when he was 58, in 1974. That’s 41 years ago, when the standard for a kidney transplanted from a living donor is more like 15-20 years. Her father died at age 76 but his kidney lives on inside his daughter.
